Project Cost Control

Most cost overruns don’t announce themselves — they build quietly across dozens of line items until the damage is done. DCESM sets up and runs a cost control system for your project that tracks budgets, commitments, and actuals in real time, so you see problems while there’s still time to fix them. We support general contractors, owners, and developers on projects across the United States.

What you get

Budget setup & cost coding

We structure your project budget by cost code — by trade, phase, and line item — so every dollar has a home and nothing hides in a catch-all.

Commitment tracking

Subcontracts, purchase orders, and change orders logged against budget as they happen, not at month-end.

Actuals reconciliation

Invoices and field costs reconciled against commitments so paid, committed, and remaining are always current.

Variance reporting

Clear, owner-ready reports that flag where the project is trending over — by line item, with the why behind it.

Change order management

Every change priced, tracked, and rolled into the forecast so scope creep never surprises you at closeout.

Cash flow projection

Monthly cash needs projected from the schedule and commitments, so financing and draws stay ahead of the work.

Built for the people on the hook

General contractors who need an owner-grade cost picture without adding office staff, owners and developers who want independent eyes on where their money is going, and lenders or partners who need credible monthly reporting on active construction projects anywhere in the country.

DCESM is a Central Valley organization with 20+ years of hands-on construction experience, serving clients nationwide — on time and on budget.

Simple to start

STEP 01

Book a phone call

Pick a time on our calendar and we’ll call you — a short, free conversation about your project and what a win looks like.

STEP 02

Get a rough estimate

You get a clear scope and a rough estimate up front — work is then billed at an hourly rate, so you only pay for the hours it actually takes.

STEP 03

Get results

Clear, documented deliverables on a defined timeline — built to keep your project on time and on budget.

Common questions

How is cost control different from bookkeeping?

Bookkeeping records what you’ve already spent. Cost control compares spending and commitments against budget and schedule progress — it tells you where the project will land, not just where it’s been. We work alongside your bookkeeper or accounting software, not instead of them.

What software do you work with?

We adapt to what you already use — spreadsheets, QuickBooks, Procore, Buildertrend, or others. If you have nothing in place, we’ll set up a clean, simple system your team can actually maintain.

When should cost control start?

Ideally at buyout, before major commitments are signed. But we regularly step into projects mid-stream to rebuild the cost picture and get reporting back on track.

Do you work outside the Central Valley?

Yes. DCESM is based in Clovis, California and works with clients across the United States. Most cost control work is done remotely, with site visits as needed.
